Bill Shifts ICE Funding to Local Law Enforcement

January 27, 2026

In response to the two Americans that were killed by ICE agents, Michigan Representative Haley Stevens announced she will co-sponsor a bill to slash ICE’s budget.

The proposed bill would take away $75 billion from ICE and give it to state and local police instead.

The bill would hire and train about 200,000 police officers nationwide and move $45 billion to the Byrne JAG program for training, victim services, and crime prevention.
