Congresswoman Stevens (D-MI) Resolution Condemning Hostage Taking by Hamas Passes U.S. House Unanimously

November 28, 2023

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the U.S. House of Representatives unanimously adopted a resolution introduced by Rep. Haley Stevens (D-MI), Co-Chair of the Congressional Hostage Task Force, demanding the immediate release of all innocents held hostage by Hamas in the wake of the brutal October 7th terrorist attack on Israel.

Co-sponsored by Rep. French Hill (R-AR) Co-Chair of the Congressional Hostage Task Force, this bipartisan resolution passed 414-0

“For 52 days more than 200 people have been held in tunnels, without medical care or sufficient food. For 52 days, their families have been waiting with bated breath to learn the fate of their loved ones – tiny babies, parents, elderly people,” said Rep. Haley Stevens. “It is inhumane, immoral, and a violation of humanitarian law. Recent releases of hostages are a positive step, but it is not enough. After weeks of working with the families of hostages, I’m heartened that every single one of my colleagues voted to support this resolution this evening, and that all my colleagues joined me in condemning the actions of Hamas and calling for the immediate release of ALL innocent civilians held, including nine Americans. I will not stop until each and every hostage is safely returned.”

“Holding innocent civilians hostage is immoral,” said Rep. French Hill. “While Hamas releasing some of the hostages last week was a step in the right direction, it is not enough until all those held against their will by this savage terrorist group are released from captivity. I am proud that my resolution with Rep. Haley Stevens passed the House tonight, further demonstrating our steadfast commitment to bringing all those held hostage by Hamas home safely.”
