Haley Stevens, Lead Author Of The Stop Trump’s Abuse Of Power Act, Responds To Threat Trump Will Be Deploying The Military To Chicago
Stevens’ Bill Would Prevent The President From Deploying The Military Without The Consent Of Local Leadership
WASHINGTON, D.C. – In response to the news that Donald Trump plans to deploy the military to Chicago, over the wishes of Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, Michigan Congresswoman Haley Stevens, the lead author of the Stop Trump’s Abuse of Power Act, released the following statement:
“Since the moment he was sworn in, Donald Trump has caused chaos and abused his power to advance his political agenda. We saw him do it in Los Angeles – where his decision to deploy the Marines on U.S. soil created more chaos, more uncertainty, and more violence – and now he is threatening an unwelcome and dangerous show of force in Chicago.
“These kinds of reckless abuses of power must stop, which is why I introduced the Stop Trump’s Abuse of Power Act to ensure the President can’t continue to sow chaos in our country.
“We need to put an end to Trump’s chaos and defend the rule of law so we can get back to lowering the rising costs that are facing the Michiganders I am meeting with every day.”
