U.S. Rep. Haley Stevens will introduce articles of impeachment against Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the Michigan congresswoman announced Thursday.
"RFK Jr. is making our country less safe and making healthcare less affordable and accessible for Michiganders," Stevens, D-Birmingham, said in a statement.
Stevens is seeking to put pressure on the nation's controversial health chief.
“Secretary Kennedy has violated his oath of office and proven himself unfit to serve the American people. Congress must act to hold him accountable, and I intend to lead the charge to remove him from office,” Stevens said.
"His contempt for science, the constant spreading of conspiracy theories, and his complete disregard for the thousands of research hours spent by America’s top doctors and experts is unprecedented, reckless, and dangerous. Enough is enough — we need leaders who put science over chaos, facts over lies, and people over politics."
Stevens…had been especially critical of Kennedy in recent weeks. She called on him to resign on Sept. 15 and held a press conference on Sept. 10 with Dr. John Prensner, assistant professor of pediatrics at the University of Michigan, to highlight threats to pediatric cancer research.
“In the past nine months since the Trump administration took office, I’ve seen a weakening in our nation’s commitment to childhood cancer that I never thought was possible," Prensner said in a statement.

Haley Stevens, D-Birmingham, says she's drafting articles of impeachment against Kennedy.
"We need leaders who put science over chaos, facts over lies and people over politics, which is why I am announcing today that I have begun drafting articles of impeachment against Secretary Kennedy," Stevens said on Sept. 25.
"RFK Jr. is making our country less safe and making healthcare less affordable and accessible for Michiganders," Stevens said.

On Thursday, Democratic Michigan Rep. Haley Stevens… announced she was drafting articles of impeachment against the HHS secretary for violating his oath of office.
Rep. Haley Stevens announced she has begun drafting articles of impeachment against HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., pictured Sept. 22 with President Donald Trump, for sowing chaos and reckless cuts.
She blasted Kennedy as unfit to serve and accused Kennedy of making the country less safe and health care less affordable and accessible.“His contempt for science, the constant spreading of conspiracy theories, and his complete disregard for the thousands of research hours spent by America’s top doctors and experts is unprecedented, reckless, and dangerous,” she said in a statement.
“Enough is enough—we need leaders who put science over chaos, facts over lies, and people over politics,” she added.
Stevens specifically noted the massive cuts to medical research, including for pediatric cancer and vaccine developments, as well as moves by the Trump administration to limit vaccine access.
New polling from Quinnipiac released on Wednesday found Kennedy’s approval is underwater by a whopping 21 points. 54 percent of voters disapprove of the job he is doing in office, while just 33 percent approve.

Rep. Haley Stevens (D-Mich.) announced Thursday she would introduce articles of impeachment against Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. due to “health care chaos” under his watch.
On social platform X, Stevens wrote, “Health care chaos. Reckless cuts. Rising costs. Michiganders and families across the country are paying the price for RFK Jr.’s agenda. Enough is enough, which is why I’m drafting articles of impeachment against @SecKennedy.”
Stevens has repeatedly called for Kennedy’s removal from his role since he became health secretary.
She called for Kennedy to resign earlier this month, citing the slashing of medical research for pediatric cancer and vaccines.
“Michiganders are tired of politicians who chase attention and ignore real problems. I’ve seen enough chaos from this administration and from Secretary Kennedy,” Stevens said in a statement Sept. 15.
“He’s making Michiganders unhealthy and unsafe. He needs to resign now. It’s time for leaders who fight for science, for health, and for the people, not those who undermine the progress our families and researchers work so hard to achieve.”
The move to impeach Kennedy comes amid federal health policies and recommendations that major medical organizations have spoken out against, including recommendations to alter childhood vaccination schedules and President Trump telling pregnant women not to take Tylenol.
Michigan Advance: Haley Stevens files articles of impeachment against RFK Jr.

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is facing new opposition from Michigan’s U.S. Rep. Haley Stevens, as the congresswoman on Thursday filed articles of impeachment over what she called dangerous cuts to medical research.
Stevens (D-Brimingham) also cited the increased cost to health care under RFK Jr.’s short time as secretary, abuses of power and ongoing threats to public health. The congresswoman previously asked Kennedy to resign, but is now trying to force his ouster through articles of impeachment.
“RFK Jr. is making our country less safe and making healthcare less affordable and accessible for Michiganders,” Stevens said in a news release.
“His contempt for science, the constant spreading of conspiracy theories, and his complete disregard for the thousands of research hours spent by America’s top doctors and experts is unprecedented, reckless, and dangerous. Enough is enough – we need leaders who put science over chaos, facts over lies, and people over politics.”
Kennedy’s restriction of vaccine access was another point of contention, and his spreading of “absurd conspiracies” that have put people’s lives in danger, Stevens said.
The secretary is also being accused of lying in his confirmation hearings over promises he made during those proceedings that have not been upheld. The chief promise Stevens cited was his pledge to not break up the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s vaccine panel of independent experts.

U.S. Rep. Haley Stevens plans to introduce articles of impeachment against Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
The Rochester Democrat announced those plans Thursday, saying the impeachment effort is in response to RFK Jr.’s “ongoing efforts to jeopardize public health, increase the cost of healthcare, and cut critical medical research.”
Stevens alleged RFK Jr. violated his oath of office and has proven himself unfit to serve the American people.
“RFK Jr. is making our country less safe and making healthcare less affordable and accessible for Michiganders,” Stevens said.
“His contempt for science, the constant spreading of conspiracy theories and his complete disregard for the thousands of research hours spent by America’s top doctors and experts is unprecedented, reckless and dangerous.
“Enough is enough – we need leaders who put science over chaos, facts over lies and people over politics, which is why I am announcing today that I have begun drafting articles of impeachment against Secretary Kennedy.”
Earlier this month, Stevens called on RFK Jr. to resign for largely the same reasons as her impeachment effort.
Stevens’ impeachment announcement comes after a new conference earlier this week where Trump, alongside RFK Jr., declared a supposed link between autism and acetaminophen. The most well-known brand of acetaminophen, an over-the-counter pain relief and fever-reducing medication, is Tylenol.

Stevens announced her drafting of the impeachment articles on Thursday, just days after Kennedy made a controversial announcement linking the use of Tylenol during pregnancy.
“RFK Jr. is making our country less safe and making healthcare less affordable and accessible for Michiganders,” Stevens wrote in a press release
“His contempt for science, the constant spreading of conspiracy theories, and his complete disregard for the thousands of research hours spent by America’s top doctors and experts is unprecedented, reckless, and dangerous.”
“Enough is enough – we need leaders who put science over chaos, facts over lies, and people over politics, which is why I am announcing today that I have begun drafting articles of impeachment against Secretary Kennedy,” she continued.
While many Democrats in Congress have called on Kennedy to step down or be fired, Stevens would be the first to file articles of impeachment against the Cabinet secretary.
Stevens said the articles of impeachment will focus on his cutting of “lifesaving” research, restricting access to vaccines, spreading conspiracies, lying in his confirmation hearing, and his failure to carry out his duties in administering the Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
