By Nick Niedzwiadek

  • The “Make Congress Drive Union-Made Act” would impose restrictions on which cars they can buy or lease using their so- called Members' Representational Allowance, the funds lawmakers are given annually to spend on staff, district office leases and other expenses related to their official duties.

  • Rajiv Sicora, the UAW's legislative director, said in a statement to POLITICO that the legislation “would ensure that Members of Congress stand up for the union way of life in their choice of vehicle — supporting the generations of autoworkers who build not only cars, but a better economic future based on solidarity.”

  • “Michigan auto workers put the world on wheels, and they deserve to know their elected leaders have their backs,”

  • “This bill makes sure we invest in our American auto industry and the union workers that power it."
