Rep. Stevens to Celebrate Manufacturing Day at Schoolcraft College

October 3, 2019

LIVONIA, MI – On Friday, October 4th, at 11:30 am in Livonia, Congresswoman Haley Stevens (MI-11) will speak to more than 700 middle school students participating in Western Wayne Manufacturing Day. Held annually on the first Friday in October, Manufacturing Day highlights the innovative work being done by our strong manufacturing workforce by encouraging thousands of companies and educational institutions around the nation to open their doors to students, parents, teachers, and community leaders.

“Southeast Michigan lives and breathes manufacturing, and I am thrilled to join my fellow Michiganders in celebrating Manufacturing Day today,” said Congresswoman Stevens. “Manufacturing Day is an amazing opportunity for students to get a firsthand look at what today’s engineers, technicians, and other staff do each day at advanced manufacturing facilities across the region. Today, companies of all sizes are opening their doors to give students a close look at their design labs, testing centers, and manufacturing operations. If we are going to address our workforce challenges in Michigan, we must embrace opportunities like Manufacturing Day to expose students to STEM concepts and help them find their passion in manufacturing at a young age.”

In her role as Chair of the House Science Subcommittee on Research & Technology, she has chaired a subcommittee hearing on advanced manufacturing. She introduced the American Manufacturing Leadership Act, a bill to improve the Manufacturing USA program. She has also written an op-ed and introduced a resolution to promote the practice of remanufacturing, and been named to the 2019 class of Influential Women in Manufacturing. Congresswoman Stevens often holds “Manufacturing Monday” events in Michigan, during which she visits small- and mid-size businesses, training centers, schools, or other places that play a role in southeast Michigan’s manufacturing and innovation economy. Earlier this month, the House passed a Stevens-led amendment to help small- and mid-sized manufacturers implement more robust cybersecurity standards.
