Rep. Stevens to Convene Subcommittee Hearing to Review National Institute of Standards and Technology FY2020 Budget Request

WASHINGTON—Congresswoman Haley Stevens (MI-11) will convene a hearing as Chairwoman of the House Subcommittee on Research & Technology tomorrow, Tuesday, April 8, 2019 at 10 a.m. ET in Washington, D.C. The hearing, called “A Review of the National Institute of Standards and Technology Fiscal Year 2020 Budget Request,” will examine the budget of one of the major federal agencies under the jurisdiction of Congresswoman Stevens’ subcommittee.

“NIST works with industry, academia, and other government agencies to advance science, support technological innovation, and increase competitiveness of U.S. companies,” Congresswoman Haley Stevens will say in her opening statement. “NIST’s recognized excellence in measurement science and standards has underpinned U.S. leadership in areas as diverse as additive manufacturing, spectrum sharing, smart grid, biotechnology, cybersecurity, forensic science, and infrastructure resiliency. […] I understand hard decisions have to be made in every budget, but the proposed $300 million cut to NIST would cause irreversible damage to our nation.”
