Rep. Stevens to Convene Subcommittee Hearing to Review the Need for a National Surface Transportation Research Agenda

 

WASHINGTON—Congresswoman Haley Stevens (MI-11) will convene a hearing as Chairwoman of the House Subcommittee on Research & Technology tomorrow, Thursday, July 11, 2019 at 2 p.m. ET in Washington, D.C. The hearing, called “Bumper to Bumper: The Need for a National Surface Transportation Research Agenda,” will examine public sector investment in transportation research. Dr. Henry Liu of the University of Michigan’s Transportation Research Institute will testify during Thursday’s hearing.

“Investing in research and development is critical to developing smart, resilient, and cost-effective transportation infrastructure for the future,” Congresswoman Stevens will say in her opening statement. “Unfortunately, public sector investment in transportation research has been declining. […] This research is critical to inform the policies of transportation agencies at all levels of government to make infrastructure investments that will help to grown innovative transportation technologies while keeping people safe and reducing traffic congestion.”
