Rep. Stevens hosts Health Care Town Hall in Canton
CANTON, MI – On Wednesday evening, Congresswoman Haley Stevens hosted a town hall focused on health care as part of her “24 Towns in 24 Days” districtwide tour. Congresswoman Stevens was joined by an expert panel to discuss ways to reduce healthcare costs and increase access to care, with panelists representing the Michigan League for Public Policy, AARP Michigan, and the Michigan Primary Care Association. The panel also included multiple healthcare providers, and a patient advocate.
“In 2018, Michiganders made clear that they want a Congress committed to defending their access to quality, affordable health care,” said Rep. Stevens. “That’s why I’ve made lowering the cost of healthcare and preserving protections for people with pre-existing conditions a top priority in Congress. Last night’s town hall was a great opportunity to meet with my constituents and discuss pragmatic solutions to improve our healthcare system with some of Michigan’s leading healthcare experts.”
Congresswoman Stevens was joined by the following panelists:
Amber Bellazaire, Policy Analyst – Michigan League for Public Policy
Melissa Seifert, Associate State Director of Government Affairs – AARP Michigan
Dennis Litos, Interim CEO – Michigan Primary Care Association
Dr. Corey Dean, MD, FAAP, FACP
Dr. Raymond Rion, Executive Director – Packard Health
Andrea Pietrowsky, Patient Advocate – Little Lobbyists
Since taking office in January, Congresswoman Haley Stevens has consistently fought to lower healthcare costs and expand access to care. She has cosponsored and voted for bills to protect and strengthen the Affordable Care Act, including its critically important provisions that protect those living with pre-existing conditions, ban lifetime caps, and expand health insurance coverage. She has also supported legislation to reduce the cost of prescription drugs by increasing competition, expand treatment for mental health and for those suffering from the opioid crisis, and to end surprise medical billing.
