Rep. Stevens Statement on Anniversary of Parkland Tragedy

February 14, 2019

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Haley Stevens (MI-11) made the following statement on the anniversary of the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.

“One year ago today, a gunman shot 17 people to death at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Survivors of the attack witnessed unimaginable cruelty and violence, but many of these students channeled their pain into activism and civic engagement,” said Congresswoman Haley Stevens. “One year later, these incredible young leaders are helping lead a national movement to stop the epidemic of gun violence. In recent months, I have had the pleasure of getting to know a few of the students who survived the attack. Their passion and resilience is a daily source of inspiration. As we reflect on this painful anniversary, I want to extend my sincerest condolences and reaffirm that the House of Representatives is working to pass life-saving gun safety reforms like universal background checks.”
