Rep. Stevens Statement in Support of the PRO Act

May 8, 2019

WASHINGTON – On Wednesday, May 8th, Congresswoman Stevens released the following statement in support of the Protecting Workers' Right to Organize Act, or PRO Act. The PRO Act was the subject of a hearing convened by the House Subcommittee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, of which Congresswoman Stevens is a member.

“Right now, there is no enforcement for violations of workers’ right to organize,” said Congresswoman Haley Stevens. “I am proud to stand with my brothers and sisters in labor to support the PRO Act, which strengthens workers’ right to organize and bargain for living wages and safer working conditions.”

There are currently no civil penalties that can deter employers from violating workers' rights to organize. The Protecting the Right to Organize Act establishes penalties that can deter employers from committing unfair labor practices and strengthens workers' ability to negotiate with their employer.
