Science Committee Advances Stevens-backed Bill to Reauthorize ARPA-E
WASHINGTON – On Wednesday, Congresswoman Haley Stevens voted to advance two bipartisan bills through the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology: H.R. 4091, the ARPA-E Reauthorization Act, and H.R. 4230, the Clean Industrial Technology Act.
The ARPA-E Reauthorization Act, which Congresswoman Stevens has co-sponsored, would reauthorize the federal agency tasked with promoting and funding research and development of advanced energy technologies. Since 2010, academic institutions and companies in southeastern Michigan have leveraged over $35 million in ARPA-E funding for strategic investments in advanced electric and autonomous vehicle technology. The Clean Industrial Technology Act would establish a program to incentivize innovation and to enhance the industrial competitiveness of the United States by developing technologies to reduce emissions from the manufacturing sector.
“I am proud to support the ARPA-E Reauthorization Act and the Clean Industrial Technology Act, which will help advance new clean energy technologies by investing in transformational research and development projects that the public sector is uniquely positioned to support,” said Congresswoman Stevens. “These bills will boost the manufacturing economy in southeast Michigan by creating jobs and maintaining our edge in energy research and development, while putting sustainability front and center.”
