Stevens Announces Nearly $8 Million in New Funding for Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics in Michigan’s 11th District
WASHINGTON — On the first day of Mental Health Awareness Month, Congresswoman Haley Stevens (MI-11) announced that three Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics in Michigan’s 11th Congressional District will receive nearly $8 million in new funding over the next two years.
This is a result of the passage of the Excellence in Mental Health and Addiction Treatment Act by U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Senator Roy Blunt (R-MO). This law established new Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics, which are transforming the way behavioral health and addiction treatment services are delivered across Michigan and the country. These clinics provide a comprehensive set of services including 24/7/365 crisis services; outpatient mental health and substance abuse treatment services; immediate screenings, risk assessments, and diagnoses; and care coordination with emergency rooms, law enforcement, and veteran groups.
Congresswoman Stevens was a co-sponsor of the Excellence in Mental Health and Addiction Treatment Expansion Act in the U.S. House, and a strong advocate for increased funding for the national Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic Expansion Grants program in the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.
“As Michigan faces unprecedented economic and public health emergencies, it is more important than ever to invest in community mental health and addiction services,” said Congresswoman Stevens. “This pandemic has been a major source of stress and anxiety for so many Michiganders, and stay-at-home orders have made it even harder to access traditional mental health resources. Senator Stabenow has long been one of our nation’s leading advocates for expanding mental health services, and I was proud to work alongside her to fight for new funding for clinics in Michigan’s 11th District.”
