Stevens Announces Paycheck Protection Program Helped MI-11 Retain More Than 132,000 Jobs
LIVONIA, MI — Today, Congresswoman Haley Stevens (MI-11) announced that the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) helped retain more than 132,000 jobs in Michigan’s 11th District, according to new data released this week from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).
PPP was created by Congress in the bipartisan CARES Act, to provide aid directly to small businesses and organizations during the COVID-19 pandemic to keep Americans employed.
According to the SBA, more than 9,700 small businesses in Michigan’s 11th District have received a PPP loan so far, helping MI-11 businesses retain over 132,600 jobs.
“As many businesses struggle during the COVID-19 pandemic, it is encouraging to see that nearly 10,000 businesses in Michigan’s 11th District have taken advantage of the Paycheck Protection Program to retain more than 132,000 jobs,” said Congresswoman Stevens. “The Paycheck Protection Program is not perfect, and I will keep fighting for flexibility, transparency, and increased loan forgiveness to make sure these resources are supporting the main street businesses that need them the most. Now that the program has been extended to August 8th, I hope more small businesses in Michigan’s 11th District will consider applying for a PPP loan.”
On May 11th, Rep. Stevens sent a letter to the to Secretary of the Treasury Steven Mnuchin and Administrator of the Small Business Administration Jovita Carranza to urge the Trump Administration to make the Paycheck Protection Program more transparent.
On May 28th, Rep. Stevens voted to pass the Paycheck Protection Program Flexibility Act, a bipartisan bill to make a key small business lending program more accessible and usable to the small businesses that need it most.
