Stevens Discusses Ongoing Efforts to Support Small Businesses with Business Owners from Birmingham, Clawson, and Plymouth

April 22, 2020

Business owners and community leaders joined Congresswoman Stevens for a video call as part of her ‘Listening, Engagement, and Action Tour.’

ROCHESTER HILLS, MI — Yesterday, Congresswoman Haley Stevens (MI-11) held an hour-long video call with a group of small business owners and community leaders from Birmingham, Clawson, and Plymouth.

Congresswoman Stevens will be hosting a series of video calls with small business owners from different parts of Michigan’s 11th District as part of her ‘Listening, Engagement, and Action Tour’. During the call, Congresswoman Stevens provided an update on federal efforts to support small businesses, including bipartisan legislation she cosponsored to extend the Small Business Administration’s Paycheck Protection Program for the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic. Each small business owner was asked to share the greatest challenges their business is facing during the COVID-19 pandemic, from retaining longtime employees, to covering expenses without new revenues, to navigating grant programs and lenders.

“The stories I am hearing from small business owners in Michigan’s 11th District are frustrating and heartbreaking,” said Congresswoman Stevens. “These talented entrepreneurs have invested their time and passion into growing a profitable business, and now they are in danger of losing their business through no fault of their own. I am committed to do everything I can to help these small businesses and the workers they employ get through this crisis. We must provide sufficient funding for SBA grant programs, and we must take steps to ensure that this funding reaches the businesses that need it most. I am grateful to the business owners from Birmingham, Clawson, and Plymouth who shared their stories with me, and I look forward to continuing my ‘Listening, Engagement, and Action Tour’ in the coming weeks.”
