Stevens Hosts Virtual Roundtable on ACA, Older Americans

Stevens was joined by a former AARP National President, the Chief Health Officer at the University of Michigan, and a Patient Advocate.

LIVONIA, MI — Yesterday, Congresswoman Haley Stevens (MI-11) hosted a virtual roundtable on Facebook Live to discuss the COVID-19 pandemic, the Affordable Care Act, and issues facing older Americans. Congresswoman Stevens was joined by an expert panel including former AARP National President Eric Schneidewind, University of Michigan Chief Health Officer Dr. Preeti Malani, and Michigan patient advocate Sarah Stark. The discussion was be moderated by Dianne Byrum, State Director of Protect Our Care Michigan.

Panelists discussed the impact COVID-19 has had on seniors and people with pre-existing conditions, the importance of protecting the Affordable Care Act, efforts to bring down the cost of prescription drugs, the Trump Administration’s payroll tax cut proposal, and more.

“It was such an honor to be joined by this remarkable panel of experts and advocates from southeast Michigan,” said Congresswoman Stevens. “Especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, access to affordable and high-quality healthcare is a top priority for so many Michigan families, which is why we need to protect and improve upon the gains made with the Affordable Care Act.”
