Stevens Statement on 50th Earth Day Celebration

April 22, 2020

ROCHESTER HILLS, MI — Today, Congresswoman Haley Stevens (MI-11) released the following statement on the 50th anniversary of Earth Day.

“Half a century ago, millions of Americans joined together to celebrate our planet, launching the modern environmental movement and bringing new attention to the growing challenges we face as we seek to preserve Earth for future generations,” said Congresswoman Stevens. “In the decades that followed, we have made great strides to pioneer new sustainable technologies and increase awareness of conservation and environmental protection. If we are going to address the catastrophic threat of climate change, we have a lot more work to do. As a Member of the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology, and the Chairwoman of the Research and Technology Subcommittee, I will continue pushing for sustainable solutions.”

This week, Congresswoman Stevens proudly co-sponsored a resolution honoring the 50th anniversary of Earth Day.

As Chair of the House Science Subcommittee on Research and Technology, Congresswoman Stevens has been working to facilitate investment in recycling technologies and promote education on plastics generation and recovery. In December 2019, Congresswoman Stevens launched the Congressional Plastics Solutions Task Force.
