Stevens Statement on Decision to Revoke California’s Emissions Waiver

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Representative Haley Stevens (MI-11) issued the following statement after the Trump Administration revoked California’s authority to set their own tougher emissions standards:

“Our auto industry needs certainty. The Administration’s decision to revoke California’s waiver under the Clean Air Act could lead to years of chaos as our automakers and suppliers are planning for their next decade of innovations. This Administration should provide greater regulatory certainty for all industry stakeholders. I urge the Administration to strike a reasonable deal with California and the automakers to keep vehicles affordable for families while protecting the environment and keeping the United States at the forefront of innovation for more fuel-efficient vehicles.”
