U.S. Representative Haley Stevens (D-MI) Hosts Roundtable with Industry Leaders and Stakeholders About the Future of Hydrogen-Fueled Mobility Solutions in Southeastern Michigan

September 1, 2023

(Auburn Hills, MI) - Yesterday, Congresswoman Haley Stevens (D-MI) hosted the Michigan Hydrogen Roundtable with industry leaders and state and local stakeholders at Quantron US in Auburn Hills to discuss hydrogen’s critical role in the transition away from fossil fuels.

“Hydrogen is a critical fuel source of the future as we seek to move toward a carbon-free economy,” said Rep. Haley Stevens (D-MI). “The heavy-duty hydrogen truck production that will happen in Auburn Hills continues Michigan’s proud tradition of leading the way in mobility manufacturing. Yesterday’s Hydrogen Roundtable brought together the manufacturers, suppliers, local, state, and federal partners who are going to make this transition happen. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law provided a nearly $10 billion investment in tomorrow’s hydrogen mobility solutions and I’m glad that Michigan is going to be at the heart of that investment, bringing good jobs to our area while also solving a part of the climate crisis.”

Roundtable attendees included:

•             Chris Kondogiani - Noble Gas

•             Rick Haas - Quantron

•             Richard Ansell - Quantron

•             Henrique Martins - Quantron

•             Tim Slusser - Chief Mobility Officer -Detroit

•             Lisa Lunsford - GS3 Global

•             Zachary Kolodin - Chief Infrastructure Officer - State of Michigan

•             Nadia Abunasser - MEDC

•             Mike Bucci - Alta eMobility

•             Jim Saber- NextEnergy

•             Joseph Mercurio - GM

•             Kennis Wooten- DTE Energy

“Michigan has the opportunity to become a global leader in the use of clean hydrogen to make the heavy transportation, industrial, and agricultural sectors cleaner and more productive, meeting our Healthy Climate goals,” said Zachary Kolodin, Chief Infrastructure Officer for the State of Michigan. “Projects like the Flint MTA’s conversion of its fleet to hydrogen busses and Nel’s plan to build a new automated gigawatt clean hydrogen electrolyzer manufacturing facility in Michigan are perfect examples of how Michigan is already becoming a clean hydrogen powerhouse. Yesterday’s roundtable was a wonderful opportunity to hear from clean hydrogen companies of all sizes so that we can learn what works and Make it in Michigan.”

“Quantron US was happy to host the inaugural Michigan Hydrogen roundtable,” said Rick Haas, President and CEO of Quantron US. “It’s going to take good coordination across all hydrogen stakeholders to ensure the State of Michigan is a dominant player in the rapidly developing green energy economy and we greatly appreciate the work Congresswoman Stevens is doing to bring us all together for this common purpose.”

Quantron US anticipates production of hydrogen-powered semi-trucks in Auburn Hills to begin in 2024.
