WASHINGTON, DC — As Michiganders face both the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting severe economic downturn, Congresswoman Haley Stevens (MI-11) voted to pass the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Enhancement Act, a legislative package that will provide much needed relief by making health care and prescription drugs more affordable. The legislation also expands access to health care, strengthens protections for people with pre-existing conditions, reduces racial and ethnic health coverage disparities and reverses the Trump Administration’s harmful actions

Congresswoman Stevens and her staff have relentlessly advocated for hundreds of constituents who were facing obstacles in obtaining their earned Social Security benefits, veteran and active military pay, federal tax returns, and more.

Ms. Lorie Spear of Waterford contacted my office because she was having difficulty reinstating her Medicare coverage in light of a clerical error at the Social Security Administration (SSA). Despite reaching out to the SSA on multiple occasions to remedy this issue, she had no success. Due to the lapse in her Medicare coverage, she had been unable to see her doctor for follow-up visits and was paying for her prescriptions out-of-pocket.

My office immediately reached out to the SSA to get Lorie’s Medicare coverage reinstated as soon as possible.
