Manufacturing Mondays

Today, I visited Midwest Glass Fabricators for #ManufacturingMonday. We talked about how we can build a stronger workforce infrastructure in Michigan and across the country. I’m so impressed by the work they’re doing here and look forward to continue having these important conversations.


Joan Bennett, Rochester Hills, sought out help from my office to get permission to have her father, WWII veteran, and mother buried at the Great Lakes National Cemetery. We were so grateful to serve those who served.

For today’s #ManufacturingMonday, I visited ACME in Auburn Hills, a company in its fourth generation & second pandemic. It was illuminating to speak with them about how they’re handling COVID-19 & what they’re hearing from customers in the auto, aerospace & medical sectors.

I represent one of the largest constituencies of Indian-Americans in the United States Congress, and I grieve with so many of my constituents as we watch India grapple with a rapidly worsening COVID crisis. In conversations with Embassy officials and family members at home in Michigan, the situation is unbelievably dire. Yesterday’s’ announcement from the White House is indeed promising and I applaud the Biden Administration for their rapid administration of aid.

Haley Stevens (MI-11), the Chairwoman of the House Science Subcommittee on Research and Technology, and Anthony Gonzalez (OH-16) introduced bipartisan legislation to reduce plastic waste and improve the global competitiveness of the United States plastics recycling industry. House Committee on Science, Space and Technology Chairwoman Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX) and Ranking Member Frank Lucas (R-OK) are both original cosponsors of the legislation.

Michigan’s latest idea to boost the state’s abysmal recycling rate: Shark Tank for trash.

State government and business leaders on Monday announced a program to bankroll ideas that would create new markets for materials that would otherwise be destined for landfills. Think “upcycled” duffle bags made from scrap fabrics, toilet paper made from cardboard boxes and animal feed containing unused groceries.
