Manufacturing Mondays
On September 4th, I visited the world headquarters of Nexteer in Auburn Hills! We put our heads together on workforce needs, trade policy, and innovating for the future. Thank you Nexteer for taking time to sit down with me! I'm truly inspired by your commitment to Michigan.
Seeing the Milford Proving Grounds for Manufacturing Monday on August 28th was one of the highlights of the summer. Mind-blowing engineering & testing surrounded by so much beauty at Oakland County's highest point. I am so inspired by the thousands of people who make this incredible campus work, right in MI-11!
On August 21st, I met with Resinate Materials Group, a company focused on "performance-driven green chemistry." We talked about how they recycle materials that would end up in landfills, and moving forward on sustainable chemistry solutions. I am looking forward to partnering on future recycling and sustainable manufacturing efforts!
On August 19th, I stopped by BASF Corporation in Livonia for a Manufacturing Monday and as part of my 24 Towns in 24 Days tour of Michigan's 11th District. BASF manufactures chemicals for a sustainable future, that are used in a variety of industries. From insulation, to running shoes, compostable polymers, to clean diesel, BASF does it all!
I went to ZF North America in beautiful Livonia- they truly lead the field of automotive innovation! Thanks to the amazing team of engineers who showed me around and let me test their products firsthand. All around, a terrific Manufacturing Monday.
For today's Manufacturing Monday, I visited Toyoda Gosei which employs over 350 people in Michigan's 11th District. We had a very substantive conversation about what they need to thrive: consistency, a vision for the future, and sound and fair trade policies. They are doing R&D and supplying incredible product throughout the auto industry. Let's make Washington work for the movers of our economy: our people.
For this week's Manufacturing Monday, I traveled to Northville to visit Soulbrain MI. This incredible small manufacturing business makes electrolytes for lithium-ion batteries used throughout the high technology industry. This Administration's trade wars are having a serious impact on Soulbrain's supply chain, along with thousands of other small businesses of Michigan's 11th District. With businesses such as Soulbrain in mind, I sent a letter to the Administration three weeks ago, describing how this trade war could easily devastate our economy.
For today's Manufacturing Monday, I visited MagnaInternational facilities in Southeast Michigan. Magna is one of the world's largest auto suppliers, and they are playing a major role in the development and production of autonomous vehicles. I got to speak with 50 bright student interns, and left very excited about the future of manufacturing here in Michigan's 11th District!
For this week's Manufacturing Monday, I spent time with Ford at the Livonia Transmission Plant. The transmission engines built here sell all over the world. The plant employs an incredible labor force responsible for nearly 24/7 humming operations. This rich history of innovation, safety standards, and sheer talent led to a fruitful dialogue with one of our region's largest employers on the future of manufacturing and the dignity of labor.
