James Kuhl, producing artistic director for Northville’s Tipping Point Theatre, said he’s beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel as vaccinations increase, but admitted the pandemic has posed as a big challenge to the theatre and many other live performance venues and cultural institutions across Michigan that have yet to reopen.

News of Carl Levin’s death spread fast across Michigan with friends, colleagues, and even some political foes paying their respects to one of Michigan’s iconic public servants.

On Thursday, Levin, a Detroit native and Michigan’s longest-serving U.S. senator, died following a four-year battle with lung cancer that he made public in March. He was 87 years old.

On Thursday, U.S. Reps. Haley Stevens (MI-11) and August Pfluger (TX-11 ) held a press conference Thursday with family members of Paul Whelan, a Michigan native, and Trevor Reed, a Texas native, as well as members of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

Washington, DC– Today, Rep. Haley Stevens (D-MI) introduced the Increasing Developing Entrepreneurship Access (IDEA) Act of 2021. This legislation will create a grant program to develop a network of business accelerators that promote growth for minority-owned businesses through enhanced access to capital, business networks, and supply chains. The IDEA Act of 2021 fuels more equitable economic growth and wealth-building in regional economies by appropriating $25,000,000 for each fiscal year through 2026.

Livonia wants to relocate and rebuild its senior center without going before voters with a tax request. It appears on track to do that.

Congresswoman Haley Stevens (D-MI-11) appears to have secured $3 million in federal funding for the project. The U.S. Senate still needs to approve the funding, which is part of community funding each member of congress can lobby for. Stevens' office is optimistic the funding will be approved and get dispersed next year.

Washington, DC– Today, Rep. Haley Stevens (D-MI) sent a letter to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi advocating for the swift passage of the $52 billion in funding for the domestic semiconductor research, design, and manufacturing provisions in the CHIPS for America Act, which passed in the overwhelmingly bipartisan U.S. Innovation and Competition Act (USICA), which passed in the Senate in June.

Washington, DC– Today, Rep. Haley Stevens (D-MI) and Rep. Peter Meijer (R-MI), introduced bipartisan legislation that would create a new expansion grant pilot program for the Hollins Manufacturing Extension Partnership program and help MEP centers cut through bureaucratic red tape by allowing them to choose how best to use federal funds.

An 8-mile stretch of Beck Road between Wixom and Northville Township may soon be transformed thanks to the availability of new federal funding sources.

The Beck Road Business Corridor Project involves the widening of the roadway from the current two or three-lane configuration to either four or five lanes with an boulevard constructed in some sections of the project to improve traffic flow​, improve safety, and increase the quality of life in the region. Communities impacted include Wixom, Novi, Northville, and Northville Township.
