he resolution is similar to one from 2019 and another from last spring. All have demanded Russia release Whelan on what the State Department has called a sham. The most recent resolution has the strongest language against Russia and the strongest show of support for Whelan.
WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senators Gary Peters (MI) and Debbie Stabenow (MI), along with Congresswoman Haley Stevens (MI-11), and Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-07), reintroduced a bipartisan, bicameral resolution calling for the immediate release of Michigander Paul Whelan from authorities under the Russian government. The reintroduction of the resolution comes as members of Michigan’s Congressional Delegation received a classified briefing, with officials from the Department of State to receive an update on Whelan’s wrongful detention.
