Washington, DC– Today, Rep. Haley Stevens (D-MI) with Reps. Deborah Ross (D-NC), Nikema Williams (D-GA), and Alma Adams introduced the Clean Slate Through Consolidation Act, a bill to remove default records from the credit history of federal student loan borrowers who have consolidated their defaulted loan. This legislation is in partnership with Rep. Williams’ Student Loan Rehabilitation and Credit Score Improvement Act and Rep. Ross’ Clean Slate through Repayment Act, both of which have already been introduced.

Southfield — During the pandemic Tara Young, owner of 44 Burrito in Detroit, had to gradually reduce her days of operation as she lost nearly 80% of her staff.

“I didn’t get a break,” she said. “We were feeding frontline workers. I’m getting a break now because of lack of employees.”

Young was among several women owners of small businesses and leaders in sectors including manufacturing and construction to express their concerns this week during a roundtable in Southfield with Isabel Guzman, administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Negotiations to win the freedom of Michigan businessman Paul Whelan — imprisoned more than three years in Russia following a closed-door trial that convicted him of spying — may be stalled by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The war could "potentially slow down any possible discussions regarding Paul's release," his brother David Whelan told the Free Press Tuesday.
