“Over the last several days, I have been deeply alarmed by reports of serious abuse of power by President Trump. The President is alleged to have used the power of his office to pressure a foreign head of state for his own personal political gain.  Furthermore, the Director of National Intelligence continues to illegally withhold information about this matter from Congress. 

WASHINGTON, D.C. – This week, Representatives Haley Stevens (MI-11) and Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (FL-26) introduced H.R. 4395, the Clean Slate through Consolidation Act and H.R. 4396, the Clean Slate through Repayment Act, two bills to remove default records from the credit history of federal student loan borrowers who have consolidated their defaulted loan or repaid the loan in full.

WASHINGTON – This week, Congresswoman Haley Stevens (D-MI) introduced a new bill alongside Reps. Anthony Gonzalez (R-OH), Jim Baird (R-IN), and Katie Hill (D-CA) to support critical research to identify manipulated media content known as “deepfakes” that threaten to erode public discord, scam the American public and endanger our national security.  Deepfake technology has developed rapidly over the past several years with no clear method of identifying and stopping it from becoming a major national security threat.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Representative Haley Stevens (MI-11) joined U.S. Senators Gary Peters (MI) and Debbie Stabenow (MI) and Representatives Tim Walberg (MI-07) and Dan Kildee (MI-05) to call on the Russian government to release Michigan native Paul Whelan, who has been detained for over eight months without evidence presented. Paul’s sister Elizabeth Whelan joined the Members, urging Congress to pass their bipartisan, bicameral resolution that was introduced this week condemning the Russian government and demanding Paul’s immediate release.

WASHINGTON – On Wednesday, Congresswoman Haley Stevens voted to advance two bipartisan bills through the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology: H.R. 4091, the ARPA-E Reauthorization Act, and H.R. 4230, the Clean Industrial Technology Act.
