WASHINGTON, D.C. – TODAY, U.S. Representatives Haley Stevens (D-MI) and Jahana Hayes (D-CT) introduced the Addressing Teacher Shortages Act to help school districts recruit and train the next generation of public school teachers.

The bill creates a competitive grant program so school districts can pursue a wide range of tools including certification assistance as well as mentorship and professional development for current teachers to increase the pipeline from college to the classroom.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representatives Haley Stevens (D-MI) and Jay Obernolte (R-CA) led a letter to the House Appropriations Committee urging the inclusion of an additional $10 million in funding to establish the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s (NIST) U.S. Artificial Intelligence Safety Institute (USAISI) in the Fiscal Year 2024 Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Appropriations.

This means tested legislation would allow older Americans and individuals with disabilities to receive a tax credit for up to 35% of the cost of modifications or $5,250 per project with a $15,000 lifetime cap.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – This week, the U.S. Hostage and Wrongful Detainee Day Act introduced by Rep. Haley Stevens (D-MI), Co-Chair of the Congressional Task Force on American Hostages and Americans Wrongfully Detained Abroad, passed the House as part of the bipartisan National Defense Authorization Act. This is the third piece of legislation introduced by Rep. Stevens to pass the House in the same number of weeks.

Today, Rep. Haley Stevens (D-MI) introduced the Prevent Release of Toxic Emissions, Contamination and Transfer (PROTECT) Act, which would direct the EPA to issue a final rule to add PFAS chemicals to the list of hazardous air pollutants and thus trigger the process for the EPA to set emission reduction standards for these dangerous chemicals. Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-MI), Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA), Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), and Rep. Bill Posey (R-FL) are original co-sponsors of the bill.
