Today’s Manufacturing Monday took me to the world headquarters of Navistar Defense in Madison Heights. These folks are leaders in developing vehicles that protect our armed forces alongside supporting Ukrainians in their fight for freedom and democracy.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representatives Haley Stevens (D-MI) and Jay Obernolte (R-CA) led a letter to the House Appropriations Committee urging the inclusion of an additional $10 million in funding to establish the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s (NIST) U.S. Artificial Intelligence Safety Institute (USAISI) in the Fiscal Year 2024 Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Appropriations.
This means tested legislation would allow older Americans and individuals with disabilities to receive a tax credit for up to 35% of the cost of modifications or $5,250 per project with a $15,000 lifetime cap.
“I lost my Medicare due to an error. I had tried to get it back by interacting with Medicare, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Social Security and my retirement agency for a month, with no resolution. I have many health concerns and not having insurance was terrifying. I contacted the office of Congresswoman Haley Stevens and they were exemplary advocates. They were professional, knowledgeable, efficient and kind. What I could not accomplish in over a month, her office accomplished in less than a week. I have now gotten my Medicare back and I am no longer experiencing sleepless nights.
Today’s Manufacturing Monday brought me to Williams International in Pontiac. They’re industry leaders in aerospace - championing the development and assembly of jet engines for both defense and commercial purposes. So rewarding to see their efforts and workforce in action!
FARMINGTON HILLS, MI – Today, U.S. Representatives Haley Stevens (D-MI) hosted a roundtable with business and community leaders to discuss the impact of power outages on businesses’ and families’ bottom lines and to discuss her new bill, the Prolonged Power Outage Relief Act.
“Two years after my husband's passing, Social Security still had not started paying me survivor benefits. Visits to Social Security provided no answers or progress. The financial stress was something I did not need while coping with the sudden loss of my husband of almost 50 years. I decided to reach out to Congresswoman Stevens. Within the hour of submitting an email to her office, a response was received. They kept me informed as efforts were made to figure out the reason for the hold-up on my payments. At last, I received an email letting me know my back payments were on the way.
It was fantastic to visit Bosch’s North America Headquarters in Farmington Hills for today’s Manufacturing Monday! We discussed their software focused registered apprenticeship program and their work and research into hydrogen and its applications.
Today, Congresswoman Haley Stevens (D-MI) released her 2023 end of year report, highlighting the work she and her team accomplished for constituents of the MI-11 Congressional district last year.
