WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswoman Stevens (MI-11), made the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives adopted her amendment to H.R. 1500, the Consumers First Act, on an overwhelmingly bipartisan basis. The Consumers First Act, which passed the House today, is a bill to restore and protect the supervisory and enforcement powers of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and return the nonpartisan agency to its essential role of protecting consumers in the financial system.

WASHINGTON – On Wednesday, May 22, Congresswoman Haley Stevens (MI-11) and Congressman Lloyd Smucker (PA-11) introduced H.R. 2888, the Stop Student Debt Relief Scams Act, a bipartisan bill that would give the U.S. Department of Education and law enforcement agencies the tools needed to identify and shut down student debt relief scams. The bill also provides student loan exit counseling to inform federal loan borrowers about debt relief scams.

WASHINGTON – On Thursday, May 9, Congresswoman Haley Stevens (MI-11) introduced H.R. 2605, the Prevent Release of Toxic Emissions, Contamination and Transfer (PROTECT) Act, a bill that would direct the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency to add PFAS chemicals to the list of hazardous air pollutants under section 112(b) of the Clean Air Act.

The PRO Act was the subject of a hearing convened by the House Subcommittee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, of which Congresswoman Stevens is a member.

WASHINGTON—Today, Congresswoman Haley Stevens (MI-11) convened a hearing as Chairwoman of the House Subcommittee on Research & Technology. The hearing, called A Review of the National Science Foundation Fiscal Year 2020 Budget Request, examined the Trump Administration’s proposal to cut $1 billion from the Fiscal Year 2020 budget for the only federal science agency that supports basic research across all fields of science and engineering.

The Climate Action Now Act ensures that the United States honors our commitments detailed in the Paris Agreement to curb the climate crisis and work to leave behind a healthy, safe, and sustainable world for future generations. H.R. 9 is supported by business, labor, faith, health, and environmental organizations.
