WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswoman Haley Stevens (MI-11) introduced her first bill as a Member of Congress, the Building Blocks of STEM Act (H.R. 1665).
The bill instructs the National Science Foundation (NSF) to more equitably allocate funding for research with a focus on early childhood. The bill also directs NSF to support research on the factors that discourage or encourage girls to engage in STEM activities, including computer science.

Rep. Stevens Votes to Advance Bill Gradually Increasing the Minimum Wage to $15 by 2024
WASHINGTON – Today, Rep. Stevens voted to advance the Raise the Wage Act, a proposal that would gradually raise the minimum wage to $15 by 2024. The proposal would increase wages for nearly 40 million Americans across the country. It was advanced through the House Committee on Education and Labor today.

The amendment, which passed by a near-unanimous bipartisan vote in the House Committee on Education and Labor, added language to the Rebuild America’s Schools Act (H.R.865) to encourage Opportunity Zone tax benefits to apply to school construction. Opportunity Zones are designated economically-distressed communities where new investments may be eligible for preferential tax treatment.
