Hazel Park city officials are working to get federal funds to improve John R Road and make streetscape and accessibility improvements.

James Finkley, director of the city’s Planning and Economic Development Department, said officials learned recently 11th District Congresswoman Haley Stevens has selected the John R project for a community funding grant.

The next hurdle, however, is when the request goes before a U.S House Appropriations subcommittee late this month.

NOVI, Mich. – A Michigan congresswoman is calling on Russia to release Paul Whelan, a Novi man sentenced to prison in Russia on espionage charges.

he resolution is similar to one from 2019 and another from last spring. All have demanded Russia release Whelan on what the State Department has called a sham. The most recent resolution has the strongest language against Russia and the strongest show of support for Whelan.

Reps. Randy Feenstra, R-Iowa, and Haley Stevens, D-Mich., have introduced new legislation that aims to apply the power of quantum computing to assist the agriculture industry and streamline fertilizer production.

The Quantum in Practice Act would introduce quantum molecular simulations and modeling to allow experts to study fertilizer chemical elements and reactions with accuracy.

Royal Oak city commissioners Monday unanimously supported efforts to secure federal funding for a new KidZone at the Detroit Zoo, and the city partnership with the YMCA to create a new community recreation center.

City Commissioner Brandon Kolo introduced the two resolutions. He said Congresswoman Haley Stevens  – who represents the 11th Congressional District, which includes most of Oakland County – is working to get supplemental federal funding for the two projects.

For all of its challenges, the Covid-19 pandemic has proven to have rightfully accelerated discussion and possible action on a few public policy issues, one of those is paid leave. Efforts to tackle paid leave have provided a prime bipartisan opportunity for lawmakers, especially following the current Administration's efforts to include paid leave in their Build Back Better (BBB) framework, lawmakers on both sides of the aisle and in both Chambers, have rightfully so, rolled up their sleeves to attempt to tackle this challenging issue.
